Position Overview

The Program Associate position has a dual focus on the Center for Peacemaking’s student programming and event planning. Student programming responsibilities include increasing Peace Studies enrollment, assisting with administration of the Peace Studies Program, and implementing student programs. Event planning responsibilities include planning the Center for Peacemaking’s lecture series, scheduling classroom visits for speakers, and planning fundraising dinners and socials.

Duties and Responsibilities          

  1. Lead student recruitment efforts toward the growth of the Peace Studies major and minor. This includes interacting with current and prospective Marquette students through organizing and making classroom presentations, tabling, and attending various events. This also includes developing informational and promotional materials with the goal of increasing enrollment in Peace Studies.
  2. Assist with the administration of the Peace Studies program. This includes coordinating with the Director of Peace Studies regarding curriculum, required university reporting and processes, and faculty engagement. Identify opportunities to enhance the Peace Studies program within the context of the university (e.g. placement in university core curriculum) and within emerging trends in the field of Peace Studies.
  3. Develop and implement a simple curriculum and reflection program designed to engage the Center for Peacemaking’s student employees with the fundamentals of nonviolent peacemaking. This should include separate tracks tailored to the specific programs (e.g. PARC, Peace Works, fellowships, etc.) that students participate in.
  4. Assist with planning and implementation of the Center for Peacemaking’s student programs including summer peacemaking fellowships, domestic and international immersion experiences, and career discernment.
  5. Plan official events and guest-lectures hosted by the Center for Peacemaking. This includes soliciting speaker recommendations, scheduling events and classroom visits, finalizing speaker contracts, handling travel and event logistics, and publicizing events. This includes special events such as conferences/symposia.
  6. Plan fundraising events (e.g. socials and dinners) hosted by the Center for Peacemaking. This includes scheduling events, securing venues and catering, developing and distributing invitations and publicity, ensuring proper venue setup, preparing the program, and coordinating follow-up with participants.
  7. Assist with marketing tasks as necessary. This may include design of promotional materials including program brochures, information sheets, event flyers, and other forms and reports. This may also include maintenance of the Center for Peacemaking website, email newsletter, and social media.
  8. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Marketing, Communications or a related field.
  • The ideal candidate will possess two years or more experience in program management, student development, event planning, or a similar function.
  • Exceptional program management, event coordination, and communications skills.
  • Knowledge of nonviolence and peacemaking theory and applications.
  • Familiarity with organizational and event marketing strategies and tactics for Mailchimp, Eventbrite, Facebook, Twitter, Medium, YouTube, Instagram, and other platforms.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities               

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Actively seeks out and is responsive to feedback.
  • Ability to write and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to develop visual representations of concepts, information, and data.
  • Knowledge of peacemaking, nonviolence, and social movements.
  • Ability to develop rapport with college students.
